Sailing yacht in Fiji

The boat was built as DIY project in Switzerland in 1995 and we own it since 2004. In that time we sailed it from Hamburg/Germany through the Panama canal all the way to Fiji. For 15 years it was a reliable boat and a good home to us.

Don't expect a racing boat, because it is not - the very best etmal we did was 150 miles, but normal is 100 to 120 miles a day. It was build for blue water cruising, it is easy to handle even for a small crew and simple to do repairs or maintenance yourself.

The double chine hull and the deck are build from seawater graded aluminium (AlMg4,5) - that is very solid and strong material.

Our boat is fitted with two asymmetric keels, so you can easily fall dry on a beach, sitting upright on your keels to make small repairs or put on another coat of antifouling.

She has a single mast with 2 forstays, a double backstay, 2 upper shrouds and 4 lower shrouds - they make sure the mast stays where it is. At least 2 stays in every direction means, that even if a stay breaks, you have a good chance not to loose the mast because of it.

We have a middle cockpit that keeps the helmsman safely and dry. The steering wheel is at the salon wall - nicely out of the way because most of the time the Autopilot is doing the job anyway. The cockpit is fitted with tarpaulin roofing for protection from rain, sea spray and sun.

In Panama we fitted the boat with a solid railing all around - except the stern - and that gives you a much safer feeling than the usual steel wire railings. It is fitted with a welded on frame on the stern of the boat that holds the solar panels and the wind generator.

There are two accesses to the accommodation space from the main deck - through the aft hatch into the aft cabin area or through the forward hatch into the forward living area.

This boat is designed for up to 5 persons, but for long time cruising it is just perfect for 2. It has a double berth in the bow, a single berth in the port forward passageway and two single berths in the aft cabin (the last ones are mainly used as extra storage room).

The galley and salon area is built as a decksalon with a table and sitting area on a raised deck on starboard. That provides, when standing in the galley or sitting at the table a 360 degree view out the windows.

The interior is mainly made of white painted wood which results in a bright and friendly living area.

We have a bathroom with a sink and a toilet, but no shower inside the boat - we usually take our shower outside on the bath platform. The toilet is a very solid brass marine type- the same model was used on German submarines in the 1960.

In the moment we are moored in Savusavu, a little town in Vanua Levu, Fiji.

We have 3 anchors (2x Bugel and 1x Bruce) all between 20 and 25kg.

2 self-tailing Barient 2 speed winches (24-45) - used for the genos sheets
1 Barient 2 speed winch (18) - used as a general lifting winch for halyards, topping lift...
1 Barient winch (8) - used for the reefing lines

Electrics:
The main battery bank has 500Ah at 12V - consists of 2x 250Ah AGM batteries
There is a separated starter battery
We have a Solar system - 2x 150W panels and a MPPT solar controller with remote display
The Wind generator is an Air Marine 403
40A charger for 230V
2 Inverter - 1x 1000W & 1x 2000W

Safety Gear:
There are all together 5 electric bilge pumps on the boat and two manual bilge pumps

Assorted fares and other emergency signal devices in a waterproof container
2 fire extinguisher (1 in the kitchen and 1 in the bathroom) and 1 extinguishing blanket

Galley:
The galley has 2 sinks and plenty of storage in the cupboard underneath. It is equipped with 2 foot pumps - one for fresh water and one for salt water.

Above the sinks there are 2 baskets and 3 smaller containers to store food, cutlery, kitchen tools... Next to the stove there is also a spice rack.

Refrigeration: we have an electric fridge with a volume of 65 liter - that was always big enough
Stove: Dometic gas stove with 2 flames and an oven. For safety reasons it is also equipped with an electric remote valve.

Dinghy:
Fiberglas Dinghy, a homemade Spindrift 10 in very good condition with an 2HP Yamaha outboard engine.
